Why people choose a double roller

A double roller solves the one thing a single roller can't: it lets one window switch between a daytime view and genuine night-time darkness.

A blockout alone gives privacy and darkness but no view; a sunscreen alone keeps the view and cuts glare but offers no privacy once the lights are on at night. Two layers on one bracket means the window does whatever you need at the time.

It also controls sun and heat better than the soft-furnishing alternative, because the sunscreen layer is woven specifically to cut glare, heat and UV while keeping your view. 

Choosing your two fabrics

The decision that defines a double roller is the pairing. The standard is a sunscreen behind with a blockout in front; a light-filtering fabric can replace the sunscreen where you'd rather have soft, diffused daylight than a clear view.

What to know before you choose

A double roller needs enough depth in the window recess to fit its larger bracket. On a shallow reveal there may not be room, and a face-fitted double projects further into the room (the brackets stick out roughly 70–80mm), with the gap between the two layers making the side light gaps a little more noticeable. An in-home measure confirms whether your window suits one before you commit.

A reverse roll and a fabric-wrapped pelmet both reduce light bleed and hide the rolls for a neater, darker finish.
