Roller blinds are a smart, low-maintenance choice for many Aussie homes, but like anything, they benefit from a bit of regular care to stay looking their best. Here's how to clean them properly, depending on the fabric and finish.

1. Know Your Fabric

Victory roller blinds are made from durable, easy-care materials like polyester, PVC, and sunscreen fabrics. These are designed to resist dust and moisture, but they still need occasional attention.

Polyester blinds (most common)

  • Lightly dust every 1-2 weeks with a microfiber cloth or vacuum using the brush attachment.

  • For spot cleaning, use a clean sponge with warm water and mild detergent. Gently blot, don’t rub.

Sunscreen blinds (mesh-like, translucent)

  • These can trap fine dust and need gentle vacuuming more often, aim for weekly if windows are open often.

  • Use a soft brush or cloth to avoid damaging the weave.

PVC or blockout-coated fabrics

  • Wipe down monthly with a damp cloth. These are moisture-resistant, so a mild soap solution is fine for greasy spots, just avoid anything abrasive.

  • Rinse with clean water and leave the blind down to dry fully.

2. Cleaning Tips That Work for all Roller Blinds

  • Always roll the blind fully down before cleaning. This helps avoid creases and lets you see the full surface.

  • Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach, or soaking the blind. These can damage coatings or cause warping.

  • Let blinds air dry completely before rolling them back up.

3. How Often Should You Clean Them?

It depends on the room. Kitchens and bathrooms usually need a monthly clean. For bedrooms or living areas, a quick dust every few weeks and a deeper clean every season should do the trick.

4. What About Dual Roller Blinds?

Dual roller blinds combine two fabrics (usually a sunscreen and a blockout) on a double bracket. Cleaning them is just as simple, but you’ll want to tackle each layer separately:

  • Roll each blind down one at a time to give yourself access to the full surface.

  • Clean the sunscreen layer first using a soft brush or vacuum on a low setting. These fabrics are delicate, so go gently.

  • Follow with the blockout layer, wiping it down with a damp cloth and mild detergent if needed.

  • Make sure both fabrics are completely dry before rolling them back up to prevent mould or mildew.

Tip: If you notice dust building up on the brackets or chain mechanisms, give those a quick wipe too.
