Sheer Curtains
Sheer curtains are large lengths of loosely woven fabric hanging from a track above the window. The fabric folds to create ribbons of fabric that helps manage light and privacy.
Most people buy roller blinds for their simplicity, their functionality and ability to withstand day-to-day wear-and-tear. Their simple, clean lines combined with practical light control make them a go-to product for the majority of our customers. But for customers who want that added design flare and elegance, Roller blinds can sometimes miss the mark. Layering a roller blind with a sheer curtain is the best way to give you the best of both worlds.
An important reason they work so well together is that their mechanisms don't conflict. A chain operated roller blinds in the reveal with a curtain across the top of the window face keeps everything neat, tidy and easy top operate.
Fabrics
It's important to remember that the loose weave of a sheer fabric is designed to let light in during the daytime but give you that added layer of privacy. However, the inside of your room can still be seen at nighttime if it is lighter inside than outside.
This is why pairing a sheer curtains with a blockout roller blind is typically the most popular choice. You have the elegance of the curtain when light and privacy is manageable but if you need a little less light or more privacy then you can always lower the Roller blinds in the day or at night.
Colour
Remember that your roller blinds is going to visible through the sheer curtain when lowered. Depending on your preference, you may not want a dark roller blind colour with a light sheer curtain. This is why it is important to check how the fabrics work together, especially in your own home. Installation
It's important to measure correctly when pairing roller blinds and curtains. It might seem pretty straight forward but you want to consider how the two products work together. For the cleanest look, you want the roller blind to be in the reveal and the sheer curtain to be on the face of the window (above the reveal). You also want the sheer curtain to go wider than the roller blinds to neatly cover the edges of the window.
Bedroom
The bedroom is the perfect place for the roller blinds, sheer curtain combination. Use a blockout roller blind at night and a sheer curtain in the day to give you natural light but maintain your privacy.
Living Room
Roller Blinds can cover large expanses (typically around 3M each) making them perfect for large living room windows. Here though you can use the roller blind as a back up, or at night so the neighbours can't see in. In the day, sheer curtains can give you nice natural light but a good level of privacy.
Kitchen
Depending on where your window is, you may want to avoid a sheer curtain in this scenario. Roller blinds are easy to clean so make great options in places where there is risk of water or grease splashes. Also, sheer curtains are very lightweight so could be come a fire hazard if near open flames.
