Instructions, Tips & Care

For all products a citrus based or non-ammonia based cleaner diluted with water is recommended for cleaning. For dust it is recommended that a static dust glove be used e.g. Enjo or other brands available. The following hints and tips are designed to help you prolong the life and appearance of your curtains and blinds. If you require any further information please contact our Service department.

ALUMINIUM HOODS, TROPICAL LOUVRES & 'RESORT' ALUMINIUM PLANTATION SHUTTERS
Instructions:
Use handle to adjust the opening of Tropical Louvres.
Care:
Victory Blinds’ standard of design, manufacture, finish and installation ensures that your Aluminium Hoods and Louvres offer the very best in terms of durability, trouble-free performance and continuing ‘as new’ appearance. In order to maintain optimum performance, simply keep the tracks free of foreign material and clean surfaces regularly with clean water

ALUMINIUM VENETIAN BLINDS
Instructions:
Twist the wand to tilt the slats. If you need to raise the blinds, release the bottom, hold down clips (where fitted) by bending them back slightly (they are designed to do this). Position the slats to the open position and pull the blind up with the cord, then pull the cord to lock the blind. Pull cords to the centre to release and lower the blinds.
Troubleshooting Tips:
Always have the slats open when raising or lowering. If slats become uneven, raise the blind fully, which will automatically align/straighten them.
Care:
To keep your Venetian Blinds clean, dust them regularly with a feather duster. Should your windows require cleaning, your blinds can be easily removed using the simple spring release in the fixing brackets.

AUTOMATIC, FIXED GUIDE AWNING & TODAY AWNINGS
Instructions:
When your canvas Awning is installed, fully extend the blind to settle it evenly. Also, keep the Awning extended and evenly exposed as often as possible to avoid uneven shrinkage.  When raising, hold the blind at the centre of the bottom rail firmly guiding it up.
Troubleshooting Tips:
If the Awning is kept rolled up for prolonged periods there may be a build-up of moisture, which can cause uneven shrinkage and looseness on the sides. To prevent this happening make sure the blind is free of moisture when retracting.  During winter if blinds are not in use, draw them up and tuck the nap under the headbox to avoid unnecessary wear and fading.  In inclement weather always retract awnings.
Care:
Awnings can be cleaned using water from your garden hose (subject to local water restrictions) and a soap that does not contain ammonia e.g. ‘Velvet’ or ‘Softly’, then sponged down with lukewarm water. See care label on awning for further information. Do not scrub with brushes or use any form of chemicals and ensure your Awning is dry before retracting.

Awning Care and Cleaning Guide

CAFE BLINDS
Instructions:
Raise blind using rope pulley, ensuring blind rolls up evenly. When locking blind, zip down fully first and then tension with hold down straps. If the blind has been rolled up for a long time:  when rolled down allow 15 – 30 minutes before zipping or tensioning to protect zips. Always roll up when not in use. Blind will shrink in the colder weather and will expand in the warmer weather. Do not leave down when windy or force the zippers open or closed, as this will potentially damage the teeth of the zippers.
Troubleshooting Tips:
White "frosty" marks will also disappear with exposure to sunlight within 5 – 7 days.
Care:
Wash with soapy water and a mild detergent.  Do not use chlorine based cleaners or scrub with any kind of brush as this will scratch the blind.  Twice a year clean and polish with Plexus plastic cleaner (available from Victory). Once a year spray zips with a silicone based lubricant.

CURTAINS
Instructions:
Do not open or close the curtain by hand, use draw cord only (where fitted).
Troubleshooting Tips:
Should a track be stiff in operation, lubricating the track will assist to keep it in good working order.
Care:
Keep your drapes dust-free by regular gentle vacuuming with the appropriate attachment. Do not handle fabric with dirty hands, as this will soil the fabric. Do not wash sheers unless otherwise specified. Washable sheers need to be COLD water machine washed then spun and always re-hung whilst wet. Refer to the ‘Care Instruction label’ affixed to the rear of your curtains.

FOLDING ARM AWNINGS
Instructions:
When in use ensure Folding Arm Awning is fully extended and evenly exposed. Adjust pitch incrementally on each arm and ensure it is retracted when not in use and in windy/rainy conditions. Keep the Folding Arm Awning extended and evenly exposed as often as possible to avoid uneven shrinkage.
Troubleshooting Tips:
Always ensure your canvas Folding Arm Awning is dry before retracting in order to prevent bacterial growth. In inclement weather always retract awnings.
Care:
Folding Arm Awnings can be cleaned using water from your garden hose (subject to local water restrictions) and a soap that does not contain ammonia e.g. Velvet or Softly, then sponged down with lukewarm water.  Do not scrub with brushes or use any chemicals.

HOLLAND BLINDS, ROLLERSCREENS & DUAL ROLLER BLINDS
Instructions:
Blinds are aligned straight when fitted. On narrow blinds hold the bottom of the blind firmly and guide it up as you draw the cord/chain so that it rolls up straight. Once blind has reached the top, the stoppers are there to protect it from going any further. You may notice some initial creases or puckering. This is a normal characteristic of new Holland Blinds/Rollers & Dual Roller Blinds and will straighten out over time. Please make sure you do not pull the blind up from the side or unguided as this will cause unnecessary damage.
Troubleshooting Tips:
If fraying occurs to the sides of the blinds it can be cut off with sharp scissors and a small amount of hairspray can be used to reseal the edge.
Care:
Clean by wiping them with a damp cloth and mild, soapy water.  Stains can be removed from blinds using a white eraser.

PLANTATION SHUTTERS
Instructions:
When bi-folding shutters make sure all blades are closed to avoid damage.  Do not force shutters closed.  Gentle operation only.  Do not slam shut, as this will cause sufficient damage to both the Shutter and also the frame work.  Do not open or close shutter by pulling the blades or centre bars, pull the frame of the Shutter for smoother operation.
Troubleshooting Tips:
If any of the blades come loose, use the tension screw to tighten again (located at the side of the shutter panel).
Care:
Soft damp cloth with mild detergent can be used to clean your Plantation Shutters.

ROMAN BLINDS
Instructions:
Pull cord evenly when raising or lowering. Make sure cord is fully behind the blind when raising.
Troubleshooting Tips:
Pull cords evenly and tie off securely at cleat to ensure longevity of your Roman Blind.
Care:
Roman Blinds can be cleaned by wiping them with a damp cloth and mild, soapy water.

SECURITY ROLLER SHUTTERS
Instructions:
Make sure guides are not obstructed when shutter is in downward motion. For use with remote controls; see instruction manual.
Troubleshooting Tips:
Keep tracks clear of any foreign material or particles.
Care:
Clean with hose (subject to local water restrictions) in open vented position. Do not spray water directly into pelmet box. When cleaning wipe in an ‘up and down’ motion never ‘side to side’. Use only non-abrasive cleaning fluids. Security Roller Shutters must be cleaned regularly, we suggest every 3 months.

SOFT SHADES - CELLULAR BLINDS
Instructions:
To raise your Pleated or Cellular Blind to the required height, simply pull the cord and lock it into position by moving it sideways or towards the window. To lower the blind, unlock it by pulling the cord lock to the centre to disengage it, until the blind is at your desired height.
Troubleshooting Tips:
To maintain order of the pleats, keep the blind in the raised position for at least 3 hours a week.
Care:
To remove dust, use a feather duster or vacuum lightly using a soft brush attachment. To remove soiling, wipe with a cloth and warm, soapy water, then remove soap residue with a clean, damp sponge. Do not use ammonia-based detergents. We recommend ‘Softly’ or ‘Lux’ type products. It is very important that you do not crush, machine-wash, spin, tumble-dry, crimp, crumple, scrub or iron the fabric of your Pleated or Cellular Blind.  Professional cleaning is recommended.

SOFT SHADES - SHEERVIEW BLINDS
I
nstructions:
Guide blinds with cords to ensure they don't rub on side of head box.
Troubleshooting Tips:
If stack becomes uneven, raise the blind fully, which will automatically align/straighten them.
Care:
Feather dusting or careful vacuuming.  Light suction is all that is needed to keep your Sheerview Blinds clean (Care must be taken, avoid wrinkling the fabric, particularly where the vein meets the facing). Occasionally, a small insect may enter and lodge in the cell formation of the fabric. Simply use a hair dryer on cold setting (Do not use warm or hot setting) and place nozzle in front of where insect is lodged and direct the cool airflow towards the closest end of the shading to remove it. For more thorough cleaning, professional cleaning is recommended.

TIMBER VENETIANS
Instructions:
Release bottom hold down clips (where fitted) by bending them back slightly, then pull the slats up straight with the cord.  Pull the cords to the centre to release and then proceed to lower the blind.  When lowering Timber Venetians you may have to assist by asserting downward pressure on the bottom rail or alternatively jiggle the cords until the blind is fully lowered.

Troubleshooting Tips:
Always have the slats open when raising or lowering.  If slats become uneven raise the blind fully, which will automatically align/straighten them.  If the cords are not straight you can jiggle on the cord as you pull them down slightly to straighten.
Care - Oiled:
If your Timber Venetians are installed in kitchens or wet areas, protect the cedar by applying a touch of Danish oil once every 12-18 months.
Care - Lacquered and Painted:
A wipe with a damp cloth is all your Timber Venetians need to keep them clean.

VERTICAL BLINDS & PANEL DRAPES
Instructions:
Always have the slats open when drawing vertical back and forth to prevent damage by fabric abrasion. Use the vertical cords to draw the blinds or the chain to tilt or rotate the slats.  Use the cords to draw the panel drapes.
Troubleshooting Tips:
The vertical slats are self-aligning, but should something cause them to be out of alignment, simply rotate them firmly. If required, replacement hangers/carriers are available exclusively from Victory Curtains and Blinds.  The Victory patented blockout blade dramatically reduces light gaps at the end of your blinds.
Care:
Disengage the hanger/carrier and slide the vertical blind to clean the window.  Make sure you only use a damp cloth to clean vertical slats (no solvents). You can lightly vacuum your verticals if required. An eraser can also be used to clean both verticals and panel drapes.  Always test in an inconspicuous area to ensure it doesn't damage the blind. Tracks are pre-lubricated and require no further maintenance.
